Hello
I read www.drustvo-ir87.si yesterday again.
"Jeseni 1916 je polk prispel na soško bojišce. Prepricljivo je izkazal svojo bojno moc, ko je 16. septembra 1916 v hudih bojih branil Opatje selo. Dne 17. septembra 1916 je vzdržal odlocen italijanski napad, nakar je moral zapustiti položaje zahodno od Lokvice na Krasu. Dne 11. oktobra pa jih je s protinapadom ponovno zavzel."

To quickly translate the excerpt in question:
". . . In autumn 1916 the regiment arrived on the isonzo front. It distinguished itself on 16th September 1916 in the heavy battles for the defence of the village of Opatje selo (Opacchiasella). On 17th September 1916 it repulsed a strong Italian attack whereupon it had to abandon its positions west of the village of Lokvica on the Carso. On 11th October the abandoned positions were re-taken by a counter-attack. . ."
I agree with yurko that your great-grandfather was serving with 87th Styrian Infantry Regiment from Celje (Cilli). I have looked some of your older messages and noticed that you have already mentioned this when you mentioned his name being mentioned in the regimental Totenbuch of IR.72; to quote you: 1916 – Orich Michal ppl 87, viď. T. VI.-55 ppl. 72..
Such mixing of servicemen during the course of the war was a common phenomenom due to growing number of war casualties. For example it is a public secret that after 1916 the majority of cadre serving in the famous Tiroler Kaiserjäger regiments were not native Tyroleans, but Poles, Czechs, Slovenes, Croats and Austrians from other provinces of the monarchy.
In 1916-1917 the IR.87 was a part of the 55th Infantry Brigade. This is probably what that "55" stands for.
To summarize: your great-grandfather was at the beginning of the war a soldier of 72nd Bratislava Infantry Regiment but was then during the course of the war attached to the 87th Styrian Infantry Regiment (Celje-Cilli) and was killed in action during the counter-attack of IR.87 at Lokvica on 11th October 1916.
I can confirm this for I have spent last week three days in the Kriegsarchiv Wien and have checked the entire fond of IR.87 (Celje-Cilli). Inside of it was also a large black and white A3 map of the Lokvica battle on 10-12th October 1916. I have ordered a photocopy of it, but I am a bit skeptical whether they will actually make it and send it to me.
Hope this answer helps you in any way.

Thank you for helping me to find my ancestor. Nowadays it will be hard to find how he joined IR87.
I doubt he volunteered to serve with IR.87. It is most likely that he was commandeered from IR.72 to IR.87. It is something what happened quite often after 1916 when losses were high and regiments were becoming more and more mixed.
I dont know where is he buried(maybe in-Fogliano-Redipuglia).But also these result make me happy.
I leave this question Simon or yurko to answer. They are much more knowledgeable about the cemeteries in the Carso region than I am. I personally would put my bet on any of the cemeteries around Kostanjevica and or Komen, but as I said I could be wrong.

Hmm, hard to say. Fogliano maybe?
On Michail's death card is buraial place missing, so i think Italians burried him on one of the cemeteries in the Vallone.
After the ww1 AH remains were transferred to only few places:

After the ww1 AH remains were transferred to only few places:
- Fogliano (Foljan) - northern part of the italian part of the Karst front (14.400 known & unknown soldiers),
- Aurisina (Nabrežina) (2.300) - probably from Grmada to the sea
- Prosecco (Prosek) (5.733) - original cemetery plus ossuaries from former Podgora cemetery, cemeteries from Lago di Doberdo (Doberdobsko jezero) area and cemeteries near Prosecco.
- Gorjansko (10.000): AH cemetery + remains from former AH cemeteries south of Kostanjevica and Brestovica valley.

I know it has been almost two years since we closed this topic about Michael Orich but today I can confirm to Marián that his greatgrandfather was indeed killed at Lokvica on 11th October 1916. He was a reserve corporal of Slovakian IR.72 attached (zugeteilt) to the Lower Styrian IR.87.
Ers.Res.Gefrt. MICHAEL ORICH (geb. Lantschar 1881, Ungarn) was a part of the Stabsabteilung of the k.u.k. IR.87. He was killed on 11th October 1916 near Lokvica by schrapnels of an Italian mortar grenade, which severly wounded his head and hands. The same mortar grenade also claimed the lives of two of Orich's comrades - Ldst.Inf. FRANZ KOREN (b. Cilli-Umgebung 1894) and Ldst.Inf. JOSEF CVETKOVIČ (b. Riegelsdorf bei Rann 1897). They too both received extensive wounds on their heads, hands, chest and legs.
So this is it. Better late than never, I guess.
So if anyone of you is still in contact with Marián you are more than welcome to pass him this note...
