It is the second print of this book made in 1994. First print was in 1989. The book wriiten bij Schachinger is the standard on Bosniaks in WWI. These were KuK soldiers from Bosnia-Herzegowina. In the book there are references to the buildup of these troops during WWI, a list off battles and a list of all the commanders of the Bosniak regiments as well as the medals won by them.
Schachinger explains in this book how these troops started to be a part of the KuK army after Bosnia-Herzegowina became part of Austria-Hungary. Even before WWI hese troops were higly respected.
After this, and an informative report on the taking of Sarajevo in 1878, a number of battles are explained in which the Bosniaks fought. Each of the around 20 reports is accompanied by map. He uses regimental histories as well as a personal diary. Battles included are in Monte-Negro, Italy (Monte Meletta, Busa alta, Asagio, Piave), Isonzo with the armoured train near Goriza and on the Eastern Front and Albania.
The book is ended by a large part on the period during and after the collapse of the KuK army.
Schachinger's book is een great reference for people interested in WWI and the KuK armies, and in particular the Bosniaks. The author takes time to explain their battles and the status they had as soldiers of the empire.
